    My success as a life coach is based a great deal on the fact that I really enjoy people and have always been endlessly fascinated with their lives.

    Early on, even as a child, I found that I liked to ask people questions that led to revealing stories about their lives and what "lights them up". I guess that means that I have actually been a life coach all my life.

    I have a Masters Degree in Education and was a college educator and an athletic coach for many years. Motivating young people to realize their potential, both in the gym and in their lives became a passion for me.

    After leaving the formal education system (my last teaching job was at Cornell University), I opened my own fitness and wellness business and started coaching again, this time as a personal fitness coach.

    Next I worked in the corporate world, as a field salesperson, a sales manager, and finally worked up to the title of Area Vice President for a large corporation. I am most proud of my sales teams, who broke many sales records and enabled me to win many awards, including President's Club. Then, as a national trainer, I was able to coach many salespeople to more income, higher achievement, and greater fulfillment.

    Looking back, I realized that I enjoyed the success of the people I managed even more than my own. That's when I decided to become a full time sales and life coach.

    Today I partner with people who want to make wonderful changes in their lives. I support them in their decisions, hold them accountable to their goals, listen to their ideas, and, I still get to ask them all those perceptive questions!

    Highlights of my life/career

     

     
    • While an Assistant Professor and coach at Cal State Long Beach, I had the privilege of coaching many national champions and several Olympians. I also played a gymnast in various television commercials.

     
    • At Cornell, my new team (two years old) won the Ivy League Championships (a very big deal to Ivy Leaguers!).

     
    • While teaching and coaching at Cornell University, Woman Coach Magazine named me "Coach of the Year".

     
    • I was featured on fitness expert Denise Austin's television show, teaching creative visualization techniques.

     
    • Hosting my own regional television show, I was able to help many people gain more health and fitness.

     
    • As a field salesperson, I won a trip to Washington DC to hear the President (and actually got to meet him!).

     
    • I was chosen as one of the top 15 salespeople in my industry (out of thousands) to be psychologically tested and profiled in the industry magazine in an article on how to clone these "Top Guns".

     
    • As a Vice President of Sales and Marketing, my team and I were chosen to travel to Bermuda as President's Club Members.

     
    • As a volunteer at Kripalu Center (www.kripalu.org) in Lenox, Ma., I am honored to assist with workshops about exploring life's mission, self-care, yoga, finding joy in everyday activities, life balance, and meditation.

             I am a volunteer with the Big Brothers, Big Sisters program

       and enjoy spending time with my delightful little sister, Angel.

       She is 10 years old, and we play, go fishing, talk, and have lots of fun.

       Here we got all dressed up to go to see her favorite play, South Pacific.

       Recently we took a trip to Denver, Colorado and she enjoyed her first plane ride (and got to see real Buffalo!).

     

     
    • Probably my most fulfilling accomplishments are: creating a very happy life with my husband, helping to raise a fine young man, enjoying lots of friends, and owning a summer cabin on an Adirondack lake. My husband Keith makes rustic furniture, you can see his work here.

    Gretchen Sunderland - Life, Sales, Career and Executive Coach

    The Mertech Corporation has trained and certified Gretchen as a facilitator for their mind/body course entitled "Personal Health Improvement Program". Sponsored by health insurance companies, this 6-week course is taught at hospitals across the country to help people take better control of their health and learn to alleviate suffering. She worked with a team to develop a teleclass format for this class, so people all over the country can participate.
